For centuries, humans have relied on Earth's natural resources—such as metals, minerals, oil, and gas—to develop infrastructure, power societies, and create essential technologies. As these resources become scarcer, advanced skills and technology are needed for responsible exploration. Our Exploration Geology course equips students with knowledge of geological processes that form these resources, alongside practical training in fieldwork, data analysis, decision-making, and modern software. Located in Wales, the program includes regular field trips to mining sites and opportunities for international excursions, such as past visits to Spain and Cyprus. This four-year program offers a year abroad at partner universities, fostering cultural immersion, global perspectives, and skills like adaptability and resilience. The Regrow Borneo initiative allows students to offset travel emissions through tree-planting donations. Designed with industry input and accredited by the Geological Society, the course ensures graduates are prepared for careers in resource exploration. No prior geology experience is required, as foundational principles are covered in the first year. Distinctive features include flexible degree options, hands-on fieldwork, and access to resources like the British Geological Survey and National Museum of Wales.
