About journalismYou may have heard that the role of a journalist is to uphold the fourth estate. But what does that mean? It means that you’re the one who finds the real story before the rest of us realise the story is even there. You’re the one who informs us about the problems and achievements of our society; between our community and the world. There’s no more important job.Why choose journalism?Journalism will teach you the skills to write succinctly, to a word limit and to a deadline. It’ll teach you to question ideas, and to question people face-to-face. You’ll learn to think on your feet and quickly gain an understanding of an issue. The award-winning, university-run publishing platform, MOJO News, makes our students’ journalism available to the public. All work is supervised by experienced journalists on staff and MOJO News consistently produces journalism to industry standards. MOJO News stories from Monash students have been published or picked up by numerous media outlets. Newsroom editorial meetings are run by students who pitch ideas, write stories and publish multimedia content that helps build a portfolio and gain experience in a structured and supportive setting. In addition, our Journalism program produces The Struggle, our student-driven news satire program, which is televised by Channel 31.Career opportunitiesOur graduates work across all platforms in newsrooms in every Australian state and territory and overseas.
