Psychology is the scientific study of mental processes, encompassing brain structure and human perceptions, thoughts, feelings, and actions. In years one and three, students select optional modules—including interdisciplinary options in year one—to explore diverse areas of theoretical and applied psychology, such as forensic or clinical psychology, cognitive neuroscience, neuroimaging, neuropsychology, social, educational, and developmental psychology. In the final year, students undertake an independent research project on topics ranging from behavioural to social psychology, with past examples including autism, anxiety and mental health, neurodiversity, spatial cognition, addictions, dyslexia, brain imaging, food and eating, and post-traumatic growth. An optional third-year computer science pathway fosters interdisciplinary skills in human-computer interaction and programming, leading to a BSc Psychology with a Year in Computer Science. Study abroad opportunities allow a semester or year at partner universities worldwide.
